SVANETI SCENERY & FLOWERS
Key areas we hiked through in the vast Svaneti region: Nakra Valley, Mt. Ushba, Becho Valley, Adishi Glacier and Ushguli. There is the saying - “If you iron out Georgia, it is bigger than the U.S.!”
USHBA & TETNULDI MOUNTAINS
These mountains dominated much of the scenery we trekked thru and we heard this regional folk tale about the peaks:
“The Svan legend tells us that the poor young man, Ushba, and the daughter of a rich family, Tetnuldi, fell in love with one another. Tetnuldi’s family forbade her from having a relationship with a poor boy. Tetnuldi, with her hopes dashed, dressed herself in her white bride’s dress and asked God to turn them to stone so that nobody could stop them from being together. Suddenly the two beautiful peaks appeared on the Caucasus mountains – Ushba and Tetnuldi – who stand across from one another and gaze longingly at one another to this day.”
(photos 14 & 16 show both peaks)
FLOWERS OF THE SVANETI REGION
While there was a huge concentration of flowers in the meadows we saw, there was definitely fewer flower meadows than in Azerbaijan.
Memorable faces and places ahead…
