MANY MOUNTAINS TO CLIMB

AWESTRUCK & SPEECHLESS

Our hike started in the small village of Sohub. Our daily destination villages were: Budug, Grizddahna, Griz, Khinalig, Laza, Yergi Kek, Gukhur, Takar and Kuzen. Most of these villages are so small that there is no grocery store or restaurant, so our meals and overnight stays were in people’s homes. Each host went above and beyond with a diverse selection of local food. Such gratitude!

The scenery was just breathtaking with its vast expansiveness. Mountains looked like soft folded green carpets from a distance. Sheep and some cows are grazed here, and looked like many small moving dots in the distance. I felt like an ant in comparison to the landscape. Most days the sun was shining and the temperature was perfect.

Our third day was a very steep climb, and for about a kilometer we were literally crawling up the mountain side holding onto tufts of well anchored grass. I was so grateful for that grass! I will never speak badly of grass again and I got to appreciate lots of flowers up close…

Next up… the micro view!
